Bunion (Hallux Abducto Valgus)
A Bunion is the protrusion of misaligned bone on the side of the
big toe. It is a slowly developing structural deformity caused
by an imbalance of the forces in the foot.
Symptoms include pain in shoes with a tight and crowded toe box. Redness and swelling at the site of the bump. Burning, numbness and shooting pain are also possible.
Diagnosis can be done in our office with an Examination
and X-Ray.
Treatment depending on the size and severity of your bunion
will range from wide shoes to orthotics to physical therapy to medication and surgical correction as you wish.
Prognosis, because this is a slowly progressive disorder wearing an Arch Support (Orthotic) is advised to stop the deforming forces causing the progressive development and re-occurrence of your bunions. This will adjust your stance and gait and correct the way you walk.
